This morning, Lewtech Solutions visited TintNation in Aberdeen to carry out SOS module coding on a Volkswagen Transporter.

The vehicle had developed a fault relating to the SOS emergency call system and its backup battery.

Why Does the VW SOS Warning Appear?

Many modern Volkswagen vehicles are fitted with an SOS emergency call system. This system contains a backup battery that allows it to operate if the vehicle loses its main electrical supply.

Something many drivers may not realise is that these backup batteries have a limited lifespan and can eventually expire or fail.

When this happens, the vehicle may display an SOS warning light or emergency call system fault on the dashboard.

Simply installing a replacement battery may not always clear the warning. On some vehicles, the new battery must also be correctly coded or adapted to the vehicle.

Coding the Replacement SOS Battery

After the replacement battery was fitted, we connected our professional diagnostic equipment and coded it into the VW Transporter.

We then carried out additional fault finding and system checks to make sure the emergency call system and related electronics were working correctly.

The fault was successfully resolved and the vehicle was returned with the system operating as it should.

MINI In For ECU & Haldex Wiring Repair – Fault Finding & Fix

We recently had a MINI brought to us after another garage replaced the Haldex ECU due to water damage. The issue was that they still couldn’t get any communication with the unit afterwards, so the vehicle came into us for further diagnostics.

�� Diagnostic Process

We began by pin-point testing the Haldex ECU connector and quickly discovered a major wiring fault. One of the key circuits had 0 volts and no ground present.

After further investigation, we identified that the ignition live feed supplying the Haldex system wasn’t operating correctly.

�� Repair Approach

Rather than stripping half the interior trying to trace the wiring fault (which can run under carpets, trims, and body sections), we provided a cleaner and more reliable solution by fitting a relay-controlled ignition feed.

This allowed us to restore power to the unit safely and reliably without unnecessary labour or damage.

Once the wiring issue was resolved, we carried out:

Haldex system coding

Software alignment using genuine MINI dealer software

After coding was complete, the vehicle communicated correctly and the Haldex system returned to full operation.

Today we were out on the road helping one of our customers improve their vehicle’s performance. They booked in for a Stage 1 remap to boost fuel economy and improve power delivery.
